Sylvia MacFarlane

Sylvia H. MacFarlane, age 76 of Gurnee formerly of Highland Park and Portsmouth, Ohio passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at her home. Born December 13, 1945 in Chicago, Illinois to the union of George and Kleo (Hadgependelis) Kallas, raised in Highland Park where she attended Oak Terrace School, Highwood, before moving to Portsmouth, Ohio where she was raised by her special aunt Helen Penett, attending both Highland Park High School and Portsmouth High School. On October 10, 1968 at the First Presbyterian Church of Deerfield she married Alex MacFarlane and the couple started their family. She began working as a bus driver for Septran Bus Services before embarking on a 25 year career at Northwood Junior High School, Highland Park. Embracing her Greek heritage, Sylvia was a wonderful Greek cook. She loved spending time with family and friends and playing Bingo on Wednesday nights at St. James Church. Recently she spent much time at her grandchildrens sporting and music events and enjoying her grandchildren.

Loving mother of Wendy (Russ) Ivy of Trevor, Wisconsin, William "Bill" (Julie) MacFarlane of Edwards, Illinois and Brian MacFarlane of Highwood. Devoted YiaYia of Jack, Will and Jessica. Dear sister of John (late Audrey) Kallas of Highwood, late Peter (Irene) Kallas of Highland Park and special cousin Athena (late Jerry) Houghtiling of San Antonio, Texas and many nieces and nephews. Dear former wife of Alex MacFarlane of Grayslake.

Visitation Thursday, September 1, 2022 form 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. and Friday, September 2, 2022 from 10:00 A.M. until time of funeral service 11:00 A.M. at Seguin & Symonds Funeral Home, 858 Sheridan Road, Highwood. Interment will follow at Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville, IL.
