Patrick Ginty Obituary

Patrick Daniel Ginty

April 4, 1939 - August 18, 2022

Surrounded in love with family, Patrick died with serenity after battling a long struggle with Lewy Body Dementia. Patrick came into the world in Short Hills, NJ, and was raised in Morristown, NJ, by his parents, Honore (O’Mahoney) and Patrick H. Ginty. After graduating from Bayley Ellard Regional High School in Madison, NJ (1957), Patrick joined the Naval Reserve Manpower Center in Bainbridge, Maryland. Shortly afterwards, he was recruited for active duty at the U.S. Naval station in Long Beach, California, where he was assigned to the ship U.S.S. Taluga, where he worked as an Electronics Technician.

In earlier years, Patrick had obtained his bachelor’s degree in mechanical and electrical engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology, which made his experience on the U.S.S Taluga all the more enjoyable. As much as he loved the military portion of his life, he transitioned into civilian life in 1964. Moving back to New Jersey was important to him so that he could spend time with his family and his many relatives. His first job was with Automatic Switch Co. in Florham Park, which eventually was bought by Emerson Electric. During those years, Patrick married Patricia Ann (Holland) Ginty, and they were blessed with three sons. There were many job relocations along the way, the Windy City was always the favorite. The last career stop that Patrick pursued was with Illinois Institute of Technology (Moffet Campus) where he spent 18 years and retired at age 80!

His children and “grands,” each one his “favorite,” were soothed by Pop-Pop’s gentle touch, and each brought Pop-Pop immense joy, wonder and simplicity when he craved it most.

In addition to his children, grands, friends, and caregivers that helped him through illness over the last few years, we send our gratitude to the nurses, doctors, and therapists from the Northbrook Inn Memory Care Community. Not only did they provide Patrick with exceptional medical care, but they treated his human soul with dignity and grace.

Patrick was the husband of Patricia for 59 years; loving father of Sean (Maggie), Kevin (Bridget) and Brendan (Jennifer); devoted grandfather of Jack, Grace and Fiona; dear brother of Elizabeth (David) and Daniel; caring uncle and cousin to many. He will be sadly missed by all who were privileged to know him.

A private burial took place on August 26th at the Fort Sheridan National Cemetery.  A memorial service is being planned for later this year.
