Martin Edward Martinek age 75 of Cary, Illinois formerly of Eureka Springs, Arkansas and Highland Park, Illinois passed away on Thursday, September 17, 2020 at The Season's Hospice, Oak Creek, Wisconsin with his wife Cathy, and his children at his side. He was born September 24, 1944 in Chicago to the union of Edward Albert and Louise Elizabeth (Selzer) Martinek. He was raised in Wilmette, Illinois where he attended Saint Joseph School and was a graduate of New Trier High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy on January 21, 1962 and served his country for six years until his honorable discharge on January 22, 1968. Upon returning home from the military he joined the Highland Park Fire Department retiring as the battalion chief in 1997. He then moved to Eureka Springs, Arkansas where he built a log cabin home and drove a school bus for the Eureka Springs Schools for K-12. He recently returned home to Illinois in 2017 where he settled in Cary, Illinois.
Survivors include his wife Cathleen Marie nee: Molinari. Four children Susan Young of Mundelein, Amy (Patrick) O'Connor of Fox River Grove, John (Colleen) Martinek of Vernon Hills and John (Sally) Young of Escanaba, Michigan. Eight grandchildren Cassidy Ebert (fiancé Richard Cariusello), Johnny Young, Hannah Ebert, Isaiah, Abraham and Eli Gonzalez, Patrick Henry O'Connor and Henry Martinek. Two brothers Philip (Laura) Martinek and the late Leroy (Gayle) Martinek. Uncle to many.
A funeral service and fire department walk thru will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 1:00 P.M. at the Seguin & Symonds Funeral Home, 858 Sheridan Road, Highwood, Illinois. Highland Park Fire Department chaplain Christopher Prager, officiating. Military honors by the United States Navy will follow at Fort Sheridan Cemetery, Highwood. Burial at Sea will be in the Pacific Ocean
