Marlene Horan, 65, of Grayslake, IL passed away suddenly on April 25, 2021 surrounded by the love of her husband. She was born February 5, 1956 in Evergreen Park, IL and was the youngest of three daughters. She was born to the union of Robert and Helen Merrick. Marlene was a 4th grade and special education teacher at Hawthorn Elementary South in Vernon Hills, IL for over 30 years. She was also a member of the Saint Gilbert Catholic Church of Grayslake, IL.
Marlene is survived by her loving husband of 41 years Terrence Horan, her children; Caitlyn (Daniel) Golde of Falcon, CO and Eric Horan of Grayslake, IL; and her granddaughter Amelia Golde of Falcon, CO. She is also survived by her sisters Thomasine (Roger) Peter of Arlington Heights, IL and Kathleen (Jay) Shuler of Buffalo Grove, IL, her aunt Sr. Mary Thomasine Novakovich of Lemont, IL and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her parents Robert and Helen Merrick precede her in death, along with her family’s faithful dog Trooper (Big Troops).
Marlene loved to take care of others and often put others’ needs before her own. She was the glue to her whole family. In her spare time she enjoyed traveling to Colorado to visit her precious Granddaughter Amelia. They had such a loving bond and her memory will live on forever through the immense impact she had on Amelia’s life. She treasured the many adventures she had while traveling in the states and abroad with her husband Terry.
Please join us in celebrating Marlene’s life and legacy. A visitation will be held from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Sunday, May 2, 2021 at the Symonds Lakes Funeral Home located at 111 W. Belvidere Rd. Grayslake, IL 60030. On Monday May 3, 2021 from 9:00 A.M. until time of the funeral mass at 10:00 A.M. there will be a one hour visitation at Saint Gilbert Catholic Church 301 E. Belvidere Rd. Grayslake, IL. The interment will be held privately.
