Leontyne "Lee" Harrison Obituary

Leontyne Marie Harrison "Lee" age 79 was a faithful wife, loving mother, self-sacrificing grandmother, a loyal sister, and faithful friend.  She left this world suddenly within the loving peace of her savior, the Lord Jesus Christ on Sunday,  August 15, 2021 at the University of Chicago Medical Center, Chicago, IL..

Born June 25, 1942 in Chicago, IL the youngest of two daughters born to the union of August and Lillie Mae (Hughes) Relf. She attended Holy Angels Catholic Elementary School in Chicago and graduated from DuSable High School in Chicago, where she took an interest in sports.

Leontyne's passion for sports became more focused in track and field.  She was a member of the Girls Athletic Association during her high school years. She was also an original member of the Mayor Daley Youth Foundation Girls and Women Track Team under the leadership of coach Joseph J. Robichaux.

Leontyne pursued her dreams to race competitively in track and field in intercollegiate championships until she met her husband, Benjamin Harrison, Sr., with whom she bore four children Anthony, Benjamin, Michael and Barbara.

As she embraced her new responsibilities of motherhood, Leontyne became increasingly interested in developing spiritually. She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at the Old Landmark Holiness Church of God in Christ under Sr. Pastor, Bishop R. L. Mitchell. Leontyne worked at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, IL as a ward clerk for over 30 years. Leontyne enjoyed spending quality time with her children and always took an interest in their spiritual, physical and educational growth.

Neighborhood parents and their children developed a deep respect for Leontyne's active participation in her children's schooling and her insistence on their commitment to their own children's educational outcomes.

In her later years Leontyne re-dedicated her life to Jesus Christ her Lord and Savior at the Living Word Christian Center in Forest Park, IL.

As the last surviving member of her immediate family, Leontyne was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Harrison, Sr., parents August and Lillie Mae Relf, sister Augustine Relf and granddaughter Brianna Lecar Harrison.
