Jeannette Van Horn Obituary

Jeannette Ann Van Horn, 77, of Waukegan, entered Heaven Tuesday, May 18th, 2021, surrounded by her family at home. She was born April 10th, 1944, in Highland Park, IL. The 3rd of 9 children to the union of Frank and Mary (Schmitt) McClory. She met Richard Van Horn Sr. at the USO in Waukegan while he was at Naval Station at Great Lakes serving in the Coast Guard. 56 years ago, on April 24th, 1965, in Buffalo, New York. In 1968 only 3 short years later, they moved back to Highland Park to be close to her family.

She is proceeded in death by her parents Frank and Mary McClory of Highland Park, her Daughter Barbara Behmke whom she missed every day until the Lord called her home, in-laws Howard and Jean Van Horn of Kenmore, New York, 3 brothers Don, Richard, and Michael McClory all of Highland Park.

She is survived by her loving husband, Richard Van Horn Sr., 4 children & many grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Daughter Nancy Petrouskas (Bernie) granddaughter Colleen, grandson Mike (Nicole) great-granddaughter Evalyn of Tinley Park,

Son Richard Jr. (Barbie) granddaughter Colleen, grandson Chad, of Waukegan,

Son Charlie (Raquel) grandson Ryan, granddaughters Rayna and Rebecca, of Zion,

Son Jim of Houston Texas and former Daughter-in-Law Danielle Ortiz and grandson Samuel Ortiz of Georgia,

Foster son Chris (Toshia) of Springfield,

Son-In-Law David Behmke and grandson Dakota, of Waukegan,

Siblings, Pat McClory of Highwood, Marylin Christianson of Indiana, Bob McClory of Alaska, Jack McClory of Gurnee, Jim McClory of Florida.

Jeannette and her family were parishioners at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Highland Park and St Dismas Catholic Church in Waukegan.

She worked various jobs and was always a loyal worker. She worked at Jewel Osco Grocery Store for 11 years, then managed a Citgo gas station for 6 years. She retired from food service for the Walgreens Corporate Offices after 14 years. When her 9 to 5 job stopped, she continued her role as a mother and grandmother. She was always attending various functions, from concerts to sports events. She enjoyed her nightly outings with her daughter playing bingo at the church. She will be missed by her longtime friend since Kindergarten, Barbara DeLaRue, and her husband, Howard.

Although Jeannette had many things in her life that gave her great joy, her favorites were playing bingo every week with her many friends at the "local bingo halls," playing cards with family, and spending quality time with the cats (Princess and Snickers).

A special appreciation with gratitude is extended to Katie Salyards and her family in full support of our family all these years!
