Jacqueline Yurkus Obituary

Jacqueline Ann Yurkus

age 80, passed away on December 18, 2020.  She was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan and moved to the Chicagoland area shortly after high school.  Jackie has been a Highwood resident for over 50 years.
Jackie worked at HP Millworks for over 30 years as their Office Manager/Resident Birthday Celebrator!  Jackie was sure to bring attention to every employees’ birthday and/or anniversary...not to mention Christmas, Easter and every other holiday !  Jackie just loved to celebrate others and would be sure to bake a cake or something sweet to mark the occasion.  Even after she retired from HPM she would continue to stay in touch with many of her counterparts for years to come.  There was always a cake to bake or an ornament to gift to mark the celebrations of the people in her life!
Jackie’s love for life was second to none.  She was an avid Blackhawks fan and held season tickets for 12 years plus.  She became close friends with the fellow ticket holders seated around her and forged lifetime friendships.  When the nasty Chicago weather would finally break in the Spring, Jackie would grab her golf clubs and literally run to the course at Lake Bluff Country Club - she could not wait to get out there and play.  There were many days she would play by herself and drop several balls at a time and play them all out making sure to tell us all how many shots she had and how much fun she had doing it.  As a long-standing member of The Highwood Bocce Ball Club, I am sure she will be greatly missed.  She was not only an avid player, but she took charge of many local and national tournaments, leagues and the bar!  Jackie was always one to be counted on no matter the task at the bocce courts.  Jackie’s most recent sports endeavor was curling at Exmoor Country Club and the North Shore vicinity.  She absolutely fell in love with the sport and was quick to learn the techniques as she practiced whenever she could.
Jackie’s son, Bobby “Rob” (Kerri) Johnson of Crystal Lake, will always be her #1 fan.  Her three grandchildren, Emerson, Olivia and Asher, were the apples of her eye and she couldn’t wait to share all of their recent accomplishments with her friends.  She was the unconditional sister to Patricia Fredley of Tennessee, Ron (Connie) Yurkus of Florida and Nancy Dolowy of Michigan.  She was a wonderful Aunt to all of her many nieces and nephews.
