Glen Johnson Obituary

Glen R. Johnson of Waukegan, Illinois was called to rest on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at the age of 55.
Glen was born on March 31, 1965 in Waukegan, Illinois to mother, Willie Ann Johnson (Annie Pooh) and father, Richard “Silas” May.
Anyone who loved Glen knew of his huge heart and how much he cared about others. His family was the most important thing in his life. Whenever he was needed, Glen was always there. Raised in North Chicago, Illinois, Glen graduated from North Chicago Community High School in 1983. Glen was a natural-born athlete and participated in multiple sports throughout his life, but nothing compared to his passion for boxing. Glen would soon get his hands registered becoming a professional boxer! As Glen got older, he decided to give back to his community by becoming a sports coach for the Rolling Greens, where he mentored them in football, basketball, and baseball. Glen’s leadership would contribute to the teams many wins and continued success.
On January 9, 1993, Glen’s first and only son, Markise Jackson, was born. Glen was a proud father who loved his son, having never failed to mention how proud he was of him, especially in the moments leading to Glen’s death.
Glen’s ability to light up a room with his smile and jovial personality is one thing he will be remembered for. During his lifetime, Glen worked numerous jobs, making more than enough income to support his family. In 2009, Glen suffered a severe injury, which resulted in his permanent stay at the Elevate Care Nursing Home in Waukegan, Illinois. Despite his condition, Glen was always open and welcoming to visitors. Glen loved the company and had a good long term memory especially if you had a nickname!  Glenn was undoubtedly a fighter, and everyone knew he meant business. Glen fought for over 10 years, overcoming multiple sicknesses while still keeping in mind his family.
Glen was a firm believer in Jesus Christ and expressed his love and gratitude to Jehovah during bible studies, during his time in the nursing home. Glen fought a good fight and has now FINISHED his race.
Glen was a devoted son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend. To cherish his memories, Glen leaves brothers, Lamar King (North Chicago, Illinois) and Richard D. Frazier (Jefferson City, Missouri); son, Markise Jackson (Gurnee, Illinois); granddaughters, Za'Maria Jackson (Kenosha, Wisconsin) and Melanie Jackson (Kenosha, Wisconsin); nieces, Lexus King (North Chicago, Illinois), Seaquince Vaughn (North Chicago, Illinois), and
Storm King (Milwaukee, Wisconsin); nephew, Danny King (Zion, Illinois); aunts, Mary Curry (Jerome)(North Chicago, Illinois), Lucille Ellis (Beach Park, Illinois), Brenda Johnson (Lake Bluff, Illinois), and Renonia Bremberry (Detroit, Michigan); uncles, Michael Johnson(Anita) (Beach Park, Illinois) and Dean Johnson (Rochelle) (Zion, Illinois). Among those listed, Glen also leaves behind a host of loving cousins and friends to cherish his memory.
Glen is preceded in death by his grandmother, Mary Barnes; grandmother, Mary "Honeybay" Johnson; grandfather, Alex Johnson; father, Richard May; mother, Willie Ann Johnson (Annie Pooh); brother, Anthony Miller; uncles, William “Lump” Johnson, Joe Johnson, and Tony Johnson Sr.; aunts, Sarah Moore and Bessie Mae Sanderson; as well as a host of cousins.
