Dennis Hinton age 72, of Rockford, IL, passed away Friday, February 26, 2021 at the Amberwood Care Center, Rockford, after battling a long illness. He was born September 17, 1948 in Rockford to his loving parents, William and Sena Hinton (née Hempstead).
Dennis was a graduate of East High School in Rockford, Class of 1967.
He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1968, serving honorably in the Vietnam War. He earned the National Defense Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal.
After serving his country, Dennis worked as a machinist, first with Sundstrand, then later with the Chrysler Corporation.
He had a love for motorcycles and being around people, telling his endless stories. Dennis was a drummer and had a beautiful tenor voice. He lived a simple life and made the best of it as he would often use the phrase, “Let’s play it by ear.”
Dennis was baptized at an early age, and although he did not regularly attend church, he did continue in weekly Bible study in his later years.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, William and Sena Hinton; and siblings, Marva Hinton, Barbara Pickett, Dorothy Adams, and Rose Marie Hinton. He is survived by his daughter, Beatrice Denise Hinton; son, William Dennis David (Charice) Hinton; step grandchildren, Janeese (Robert) Laster, and Clarissa, Gerald, and Andrew Washington; step great-grandchildren, Mosiah, Massimo, Naomi, and Noah; twin brother, David Hinton; and several relatives and friends.
Memorial visitation will be 12:00 pm until funeral service at 1:00 pm, Friday, March 19, 2021 at Seguin & Symonds Funeral Home, 858 Sheridan Road, Highwood, IL.
Interment and military honors to follow at Fort Sheridan National Cemetery, Highwood, Illinois.
