Billy Joe Vaughn, age 71 of Zion, IL passed on Thursday, September 2, 2021, at the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center, North Chicago, IL. He was born August 26,1950 in Lambert, Mississippi. He was the youngest of 10 children born to the union of Maggie and Luther Vaughn. He moved to Waukegan as a teenager. He attended Waukegan East High School where he participated in the ROTC program which sparked his interest in the military. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. in 1969 during the Vietnam Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1971.
Billy was an outgoing and cheerful person. He was always the life of the party. Whenever Billy was around he was guaranteed to make you laugh. Billy worked for the State of Illinois with the Department of Human Services as a case worker and also worked as a security guard for Goldblatts Department Store in the Waukegan Plaza and the Waukegan Harbor. He also worked for Warren Industrial as a fork lift operator and would DJ at many Waukegan area clubs and parties. Billy enjoyed going to the movies on Tuesday nights, watching the Game of Thrones, Wii bowling, spending time on his boat and cheering on the Chicago Cubs.
Billy was a member of the Racine American Legion Post 546; Christian Valley Missionary Baptist Church in North Chicago;Rufus Mitchell Lodge #107; North Shore Consistory #91and Past Patron of The Order of Eastern Star, Emblem Chapter #140 of Waukegan.
He leaves to mourn his passing: His faithful companion (Pit Bull) Mr. Max, son William A. Vaughn of Zion, IL; daughters Daneka Vaughn of Little Rock, AR; Mary Ann Taylor of Hemet, CA and Tanisha Vaughn of Decatur, GA; many grand and great grandchildren; dear brother Little X Vorns; Sisters Climmie Jones of Dyersburg, TN; Luejean Eskridge of Maywood, IL; Birdie Dicker and Correan Liggins both of Waukegan, IL; and his ex-wife and best friend of many years Diane Newman of Waukegan.
He is preceded in death by his sisters Sarah Porter, Rosie Shelton and two brothers Arthur Lee Vaughn and Luther Vorns, Jr.
Visitation Thursday, September 9, 2021, from 4:00 to 9:00 P.M., Masonic Service 7:00 P.M. at the Seguin & Symonds Funeral Home, 858 Sheridan Road, Highwood, IL.
Visitation Friday, September 10, 2021 at 10:00 AM. funeral service 11:00 AM at Christian Valley Missionary Baptist Church, 2690 Argonne Drive, North Chicago, IL. Pastor Anthony Morgan, Sr. officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Northshore Garden of Memories, North Chicago, IL.
